Özet
One of the important steps of the mouth preparation is the preparation of the abutment teeth. Before starting preparations, the dentist should make sure that the other stages of the mouth preparation are completed. Usually, tooth decay and periodontal destruction on the abutment teeth of removable partial denture (RPD) wearers are observed. However, studies show that a well-planned removable denture does not cause any damage to the abutment teeth and the periodontal tissues. Actually, the space between the denture and the supporting teeth is a favorable place for food retention. Therefore, dentists claim that the patients are also responsible for tooth loss since they do not pay enough attention to their oral hygiene. Although this assertion may hold true in many instances, should the dentist not be held accountable if they fail to take appropriate precautions? This chapter focuses on providing the necessary information to the dentist who will fabricate the RPD regarding the preparation of supporting teeth.
