Developing a strategic framework for airline destination selection: a multi-criteria decision-making approach applied to Turkish airlines
(2025) Mızrak, Filiz; Mızrak, Kağan Cenk; Akkartal, Gonca Reyhan
The purpose of this study is to develop a comprehensive decision-making framework that airlines can use to strategically select new destinations, demonstrated here with a case application for Turkish Airlines. Addressing the complexities of route expansion, the study integrates the Entropy weighting method with the 2-Tuple Linguistic T-Spherical Fuzzy Decision by Opinion Score Method (2TLTS-FDOSM) to evaluate potential destinations across critical criteria, including market demand, economic impact, and regulatory environment. Data were collected from industry reports, expert evaluations, and publicly available aviation metrics to support a thorough and adaptable analysis. Findings from the Turkish Airlines case reveal San Antonio, TX (SAT), Portland, OR (PDX), and Nashville, TN (BNA) as top-ranked destinations, each offering distinct economic and operational benefits. This study contributes to aviation management literature by presenting a versatile, data-driven framework that can guide route selection for carriers in competitive markets. The framework's ability to balance quantitative and qualitative insights underscores its potential for broader application in network planning, promoting sustainable growth within the aviation industry.

Impact of global capabilities on performance in international logistics companies
(2025) Adıgüzel, Zafer; Sönmez Çakır, Fatma; Yeşilot Zehir, Songül; Zehir, Cemal
Purpose: In order to make a difference in a globally competitive environment, companies should analyze their competitors, which is one of the factors around them, well, do research, observe the environment and know how to adapt. For this purpose, the research examines the effects of competitive intensity and marketing and sales capabilities, together with the global capabilities of logistics companies operating internationally (third-party logistics companies (3PL)), which are examined. Design/methodology/approach: To establish and test the model, a sample of 504 participants working at senior levels in internationally operating logistics companies (third-party logistics companies (3PL)) with their headquarters in Istanbul was taken and a scale consisting of a total of 32 statements was presented to them. Analyses were performed using Jamovi and SmartPLS 3.3.5. This program was used because, in addition to estimating path models with latent variables, it also calculated standard results evaluation criteria. First, the results of factor analysis are given. After these analyses were completed, the hypotheses were tested. Findings: This research is supported by hypotheses as a result of the analysis that global capabilities are an important factor for logistics companies at the international level, and that the competitive intensity also affects the performance outputs and that marketing and sales capabilities also have an impact. Research limitations/implications: Since data are collected from logistics companies operating globally, it is necessary to pay attention when the analysis results are compared with different sectors. Because the intensity of competition may vary depending on the sector and market in which companies operate. At the same time, the data were collected from authorized white-collar employees working at a senior level in logistics companies. Because, in terms of the level of being able to answer the questions about the variables examined in the research model, data were collected from high-level officials. Practical implications: It is getting harder and harder to compete on a global scale by going beyond national borders. The results of the analysis show how important the global capabilities of logistics companies are, especially the increasing importance of logistics activities for countries. For this reason, logistics companies operating on an international scale need to attach importance to the competitive intensity and develop their marketing and sales capabilities. Originality/value: The research is original in that it examines the global capabilities of logistics companies in their international activities and the effects of competition intensity. In addition, it is important for companies in this sector to examine the effects of marketing and sales capabilities so that logistics companies can reach more customers in their international activities and be more effective in the market compared to their competitors.

Examining the effect of ethical work environment and leadership styles on employees' career satisfaction in organizations
(International Balkan University, 2021) Adıgüzel, Zafer; Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Öztürk, Senanur
Human resources policies continue as a concept that constantly renews and improves itself. Training and personal development opportunities are provided both to increase the performance of employees as a result of the competitive environment and the expectation that the performance criteria (a determiner of the motivation of employees) is realized. When employee satisfaction starts to decrease in organizations, the intention to leave in organizations starts to increase. In terms of human resources policies, these development opportunities are aimed at keeping challenges to a minimum. And, as a result, the performance of the companies increases based on the leadership roles of the senior managers, in addition to the human resources policies implemented. The leadership style and human resources policies of the managers shape the future of the organization. As a result of the research, we better understand how important leadership and a desirable working environment is for organizations. Thanks to the studies conducted in these areas, it is important that senior managers set an example for the decisions they make and contribute to shaping their leadership roles. In this context, we aim to examine the career satisfaction levels of white-collar employees working in the furniture industry against their leadership styles in an ethical working environment. The data obtained from the research were collected from the furniture producing companies in the marmara region where 388 white-collar employees were surveyed in 2019. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 25 and AMOS programs. Firstly, factor analysis and reliability analysis were performed for the validity of the scales representing the variables. Correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationships between variables and regression analysis was used to test hypotheses. The Sobel test was used to analyze the mediation effect. As a result of the research and as stated by the analysis, the change of leader members and transparent leadership have positive effects, but visionary leadership has no positive effect.

Examining the effects of dynamic capabilities and knowledge acquisition on innovation and new product performance
(International Balkan University, 2021) Çeltekligil, Kudret; Adıgüzel, Zafer
In today's world, national borders have become more flexible and permeable, with businesses realizing that their most important source of profit is their ability toconstantly present differences to their markets. And, in fact, innovations emerge as a product or a service is shaped by the knowledge and capabilities of the company as they adapt to changing environmental conditions. In other words, product variety and company capabilities develop together to adapt to the changing environment since the dynamic nature of organizations can provide an advantage in developing new products. However, information obtained from the environment may also have an effect. For this reason, if dynamic capabilities are supported with knowledge, creative activities may increase and innovation performance can be positively affected. So, in order to be successful in innovation, organizations need to be able to use knowledge as well as dynamic capabilities. This research was carried out in the automobile industry (automobile spare parts producing companies), specifically due to their dynamic structure in 2019. Questionnaires were collected from 375 engineers. Analyzes were made using the SPSS 25 program. Since the survey method was on a 5-point Likert scale, correlation and regression analysis were performed after factor and reliability analyzes were performed. The Sobel Test and Hayes Process tool were performed to analyze the effect of the mediation variable. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the dynamic capabilities and knowledge acquisition of the companies in the manufacturing sector did not sufficiently affect the product performance in an environment with high competition. This may be because competitors are more successful in competition and are preferred in terms of product performance. It will be important in terms of contributing to the literature that future studies should be conducted in technology and R&D focused companies to acquire dynamic capabilities and knowledge acquisition.

(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2022) Kirby, Leslie D.; Qian, Weiqiang; Adıgüzel, Zafer; Jahanshahi, Asghar Afshar; Bakracheva, Margarita; Ballestas, Maria C. Orejarena; Cruz, Jose Fernando A.; Dash, Arobindu; Dias, Claudia; Ferreira, Maria J.; Goosen, Johanna G.; Kamble, Shanmukh, V.; Mihaylov, Nikolay L.; Pan, Fada; Sofia, Rui; Stallen, Mirre; Tamir, Maya; van Dijk, Wilco W.; Vitterso, Joar; Smith, Craig A.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on people worldwide. We conducted an international survey (n = 3646) examining the degree to which people's appraisals and coping activities around the pandemic predicted their health and well-being. We obtained subsamples from 12 countries—Bangladesh, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, India, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Turkey and the United States. For each, we assessed appraisals and coping strategies as well as indicators of physical and mental health and well-being. Results indicated that, despite mean-level societal differences in outcomes, the pattern of appraisals and coping strategies predicting health and well-being was consistent across countries. Use of disengagement coping (particularly behavioural disengagement and self-isolation) was associated with relatively negative outcomes. In contrast, optimistic appraisals (particularly of high accommodation-focused coping potential and the ability to meet one's physical needs), use of problem-focused coping strategies (especially problem-solving) and accommodative coping strategies (especially positive reappraisal and self-encouragement) were associated with relatively positive outcomes. Our study highlights the critical importance of considering accommodative coping in stress and coping research. It also provides important information on how people have been dealing with the pandemic, the predictors of well-being under pandemic conditions and the generality of such relations.

Examination of the effects of internal-to-firm transaction costs and imitation capabilities on the innovation performance and competitiveness of the electric/electronic firms
(Universidade Feevale, 2022) Adıgüzel, Zafer; Çeltekligil, Kudret; Sönmez Çakır, Fatma
The aim of the research is to examine both the innovation performance of the electric/electronic firms within the technopark sector, and in addition, the internal-to-firm transaction costs and imitation capability that affect relationships and competition between the variables. In general, products that firms offer to the market are affected by each other, and in this case, the imitation capabilities of firms come to the fore. However, in order to be successful in an innovative and competitive environment, it is necessary to effectively manage the internal-to-firm transaction costs. Within the scope of the study, a survey was given to the engineers working in the electrical/electronic firms that produce and innovate within the body of technopark in Istanbul. A face-to-face survey study was conducted since production was not interrupted in the firms working in technopark during the pandemic process and remote working conditions were not possible for the production sector. Randomly selected firms were visited and 501 employees were interviewed. Analyses were made using the SmartPLS 3.4 Program; a 5-point Likert scale was used for the survey; factor analysis was used to determine the suitability of the scale expressions; reliability/validity analyzes were used to determine the consistency of the scale; and correlation analysis was used to determine the degree of relationship between the variables. Finally, path analysis was used to test the hypotheses, and the same program was used to determine the mediation effect. The results of the analyses showed that the cost of intra-firm transaction and imitation capability have positive effects on innovation performance and the competitiveness of the firms.

The mediating effect of organizational commitment on relationship between flexible working and job satisfaction: A research in logistics sector
(2019) Türkmen, Fatma; Polat Dede, Nurten
The competitive environment caused by globalization lead to logistics companies to increase their service quality and implement best practices in order to meet customer demands and to reduce their supply times. The intensity of working hours and difficult working conditions makes the attracting and retaining of talented employees difficult for logistics firms. Therefore, the effect of flexible working arrangements on increasing job satisfaction and employee loyalty in the logistics sector becomes important. In this study, the effect of flexible working on employee’s job satisfaction and the mediating role of organizational commitment in this effect were investigated. In the research, 82 employees’ data used from 10 leading companies in their sectors implementing flexible working arrangements and the data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 program. Flexible Working Scale developed by Albion (2004), Organizational Commitment Scale developed by Allen and Meyer (1990), Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale developed by Weiss et al. (1967) were used to measure the attitudes of the employees. Research results show that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between flexible working and job satisfaction, between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Furthermore, the results have shown that organizational commitment has a mediating role between flexible working and job satisfaction. In other words, as organizational commitment mediates in the relationship between flexible working and job satisfaction, as organizational commitment increases, job satisfaction also increases.
