Öğe Editorial: Boosting positivity by utilizing spirituality as a tool for recovery: Post-pandemic process(Frontiers Media SA, 2023) Baykal, Elif; Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Farooq, WaqasAs a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, people were confronted with several drastic experiences that led to fear and uncertainty. In traumatic times like the COVID-19 pandemic, spirituality can act as a healing agent for the immune system, helping to promote mental health and pave the way for a more positive psychological state. Many researchers in positive psychology argue that one of the most important roles of spirituality is to promote greater peace of mind and reduce anxiety (Arslan and Yildirim, 2021; Baykal, 2022)Öğe Examining Islamic piety at workplace via an artificial neural network(Cogent OA, 2021) Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Öztürk, Ali Osman; Maham, Raj; Farooq, WaqasThe purpose of the study is to investigate a hybrid model of Islamic piety, by merging exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and an artificial neural network (ANN). The present research was divided into three phases. The first phase applied the Delphi method to identify the dimensions of Islamic piety. In the second, the dimensions established using the Delphi method were used in exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to uncover the underlying structure of Islamic Piety construct. In the last phase, an artificial neural network (ANN) was used to rank the factors discovered to establish their significance. The EFA results offers a new model of Islamic Piety comprising of five factors: Rituals, Belief, integrity, love of family and justice. An ANN model was formed and enhanced using the determination of model variables. The results revealed that the main variables in the Islamic piety are Rituals, integrity, belief, love of family and justice. The implication of this study is useful for educational, academic, organizational management including leadership, training and human development, and policy making initiatives. Management can use the model developed to satisfy the needs of their employees and hence enhance to increase the productivity. This study is one of the pioneering studies in the field of Islamic management and the first to employ ANN. The results of the present research affirm that Islamic Piety is one of the key fundamentals of Islamic faith.Öğe Gratitude and its conceptualization: An Islamic perspective(Springer, 2020) Ali, Syed Ahmad; Ahmed, Muhammad Hassan; Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Farooq, WaqasEmployees constitute an integral part of every organization, and their behaviours cultivate success or failure for the entire industry. Each organization should be cognizant of its employees’ behaviours that can be translated through their behavioural outcomes. One of such outcomes is the level of gratitude (Shukr in Islamic perspective) that can be conceptualized further by establishing its link with employees’ social or pro-social behaviours using lens of Islamic philosophy. The literature from the perspective of Holy Quran and Sunnah (Prophet’s practices) suggests that a good number of employees working in different industries have an element of dissatisfaction reflected through various factors including lack of Shukr (gratitude). This calls for a conceptual undertaking along with its subsequent empirical assessment as the former needs a robust and holistic understanding before proceeding to the latter. The study begins with a strong conceptualization by comparing conventional and Islamic perspective of Shukr and to synthesize key factors which can later help in scale development of Shukr. After a careful comparison between conventional and Islamic viewpoints, three components (dimensions) of Shukr were conceptualized such as Shukr bi’l-qalb (gratitude expressed by inner feelings), Shukr bi’l-lisan (gratitude expressed by tongue) and Shukr bi’l-badan wa’l-arkan (gratitude expressed by body and limbs). This conceptualization can potentially serve as a tool to examine the level of contentment, employees exhibit at workplace which eventually leads to life and job satisfaction.Öğe Investigating the non-work antecedents of workplace deviance(Taylor and Francis AS, 2023) Farooq, Waqas; Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Ishaq, Rabeea; Kashif, SadafDeviance in the workplace, which has a huge destructive and harmful impact on the organization, is of key concern to academicians and practitioners. Existing literature focuses on the work-related antecedents of workplace deviance. However, the non-work-related antecedents have received little attention. Hence, the present research attempts to understand, the non-work antecedents that aggravate deviant behavior among employees at a workplace. The Gioia qualitative research approach was used to understand, examine, analyze, and interpret the views of respondents. A semi-structured interviewing technique was adopted. The respondents were encouraged to share their own experiences, thoughts, and understanding regarding the phenomenon. A sample of 25 experienced respondents from public and private organisations in Pakistan were interviewed. The results indicate that commuting factors (road hindrances, conflict behaviors, traffic discipline, and over-speeding), social factors (family-work conflict, and disturbed social relations), and an individual's lifestyle (attitude, physical inactivity, and sleep deprivation) are the contributing factors pertaining to the non-work antecedents of workplace deviance. The current study contributes to the literature by focusing on the non-work antecedents of workplace deviance.Öğe Reassessing leadership traits: An Islamic perspective(IGIAD - Turkish Entrepreneurship & Business Ethics Assoc, 2019) Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Farooq, Waqas; Öztürk, Ali OsmanThe phenomena of leadership has long been cited and discussed in business and management literature. Discourse on effective leadership qualities is popular in management circles. Interestingly, traditional literature on leadership has presented rather diverse results. And recent developments in the field of leadership and management reveal a growing interest in religion and spirituality. The present study attempts to understand leadership and submit a comprehensive framework exploring leadership traits from an Islamic viewpoint. A sample of 16 respondents was selected, most of whom had extensive knowledge and experience in leadership and management. They belonged to diverse industries such as manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, banking and education. The study found that Islamic Leadership is based around the notion of stewardship of Allah's creation. An Islamic leader must be a role model with exemplary personality, attitude, character and competence. And only those individuals may be selected as leaders who have piety (Taqwa) and goodness. The study also presented that Taqwa, Consultation and Intellectual competence are the key traits for a Muslim leader. In addition, Taqwa encompasses Islamic Spirituality and Islamic Social responsibly. The sub-constructs of Taqwa include; belief (Iman), worship (Ibadat) and repentance (Tawbah), patience, emotional control, forgiveness, the establishment of zakah and giving sadakah, fulfillment of contracts, justice and integrity. Together, these traits frame the overall description of Islamic leadership.Öğe Relating ethical leadership with work engagement: How workplace spirituality mediates?(Taylor and Francis As., 2020) Adnan, Nosheen; Bhatti, Omar Khalid; Farooq, WaqasThroughout the 21st century, change has been a predominant theme in the workplace. Increased technology and globalization are two key contributors to the changing landscape. The costs of occupational health and well-being are increasingly being considered as sound "investments" as healthy and engaged employees yield direct economic benefits to the company. The concept of work engagement plays a vital role in this endeavour because engagement entails positive definitions of employee health and promotes the optimal functioning of employees within an organizational setting. The present article reviewed existing human resource management and leadership literature and then proposes a framework that links employee engagement, workplace spirituality and ethical leadership. Drawing on self-determination theory (SDT) that proffers workplace spirituality as an arbitrator in the relationship between employee work engagement and ethical leadership. A set of propositions that represent an empirically driven research agenda are presented.
