This study was conducted to investigate the effect of stretching and myofascial releasing methods added to traditional physiotherapy in piriformis syndrome. Methods This prospective, randomised controlled study was completed with 63 individuals between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Participants were randomised into three groups: piriformis muscle stretch group (n=22), self-myofascial release group (n=21) and control group (n=20). All participants were enrolled in a 4-week muscle strengthening home exercise programme. In addition, the two intervention groups performed stretching and self-myofascial relaxation exercises respectively. The primary outcome was pain intensity and the secondary outcome was the range of motion of the hip. Results After 4 weeks of exercises, the level of pain intensity felt in the hip decreased significantly and hip joint range of motion increased significantly in all three groups (P[removed]Öğe Diz osteoartritinde kan akışını kısıtlayıcı egzersizin konservatif egzersizler ile karşılaştırılması(İstanbul Medipol Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2022) Ergezen, Gizem; Algun, Zeliha CandanÇalışmamızın amacı, diz osteoartrit (OA) hastalarında kan akışını kısıtlayıcı egzersiz (BFRT) eğitiminin, konvansiyonel eğitime kıyasla oluşturduğu kuadriseps hipertrofisi, ağrı şiddeti, fonksiyonel seviye ve yaşam kalitesine etkisini araştırmaktı. Otuz sekiz katılımcının tamamladığı çalışmamızda, bireyler konvansiyonel egzersiz grubu (KEG) ve BFRT grubuna randomize edildi. KEG egzersizleri 1RM'nin %70-80'i dirençle, BFRT ise 1RM'nin %20-30'una denk gelen dirençle tamamladı. BFRT grubundaki katılımcılar uyluk proksimaline yerleştirilen pnömatik manşon ile arteryel oklüzyon basıncının %80'inde kan akışı kısıtlanarak egzersiz gerçekleştirdi. Tüm katılımcılara 8 hafta, 24 seanslık aynı programdan oluşan supervize egzersiz eğitimi verildi. Çalışma başlangıcı ve sonunda katılımcılar kuadriseps enine kesit alanı (CSA) ve kuadriseps hacmi (KV), ağrı şiddeti, fonksiyonellik, inflamatuar progresyon ve yaşam kalitesi açısından değerlendirildi. Ayrıca uyluk çevresi antropometrik ölçümleri, diz eklem hareket açıklığı (EHA), kreatin kinaz (CK) ölçümleri yapıldı. CSA, KV, ağrı şiddetleri, EHA, fonksiyonellik ve yaşam kalitesi değerleri tedavi sonunda başlangıca göre grup içi anlamlı farklılık gösterdi (p<0,05). CSA, KV, fleksiyon EHA, fonksiyonellik ölçümlerinden süreli otur kalk testi, yaşam kalitesi anketinin genel sağlık parametresi etki büyüklüklerine göre BFRT lehine, CK ise KEG lehine anlamlıydı (p<0,05). Çalışmamız ile BFRT uygulamasının konvansiyonel rehabilitasyonda kullanılan yüksek şiddetli direnç egzersizlerine benzer düzeyde etki yarattığı, daha fazla kuadriseps hipertrofisi, EHA, fonksiyonellik, genel sağlıkta iyileşme ve ağrıda azalma sağladığı, diz OA rehabilitasyonunda güvenli bir yöntem olarak kullanılabileceği sonucuna varıldı.Öğe Effect of physical activity level on pain, functionality, and quality of life in migraine patients(Turkish Society of Algology, 2023) Sağlı Diren, Gamze; Kaya Ciddi, Pınar; Ergezen, Gizem; Şahin, MustafaOBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the physical activity (PA) level of individuals with migraine and examine its effects on pain intensity (PI), disability, and quality of life (QoL). Results: Study group demonstrated significant differences in Berg Balance Scale, Wii Fit balance age and Tinetti Balance and Gait Test scores (p<0.05). Vibration perception duration yielded a higher duration in the study group after treatment (p<0.05). Active matching movement and tactile sensory of the sole showed statistically improvement in the study group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Proprioceptive exercises recommended to individuals with geriatric diabetes can be a beneficial approach to increase balance ability to prevent falling and somatosensory loss.Öğe Evaluation and classification of foot medial longitudinal arch height in adults(Springer, 2019) Ergezen, Gizem; Şahin, Mustafa[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Immediate effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on pain and maximal mouth opening in temporomandibular dysfunction: A pilot study(Pakistan Medical Association, 2022) Ergezen, Gizem; Atılgan, Esra; Kılıçaslan, AlaaddinObjective: To evaluate the immediate effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) exercises on pain and maximal mouth opening in individuals with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Methodology: This prospective, quasi experimental pilot study includednine female individuals between the age of 18 to 25 who were diagnosed with TMD by Research Diagnostic criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD/RDC). PNF exercises were performed for a session with 30 minutes using neck, jaw and tongue patterns with rhythmic stabilization (RS) and combination of isotonics (CI) techniques. Maximal mouth openings were measured with caliper, pain intensities were measured with visual analogue scale and pressure pain thresholds by hand algometer. Results: After PNF application, maximally assisted opening and pain threshold increased, and pain intensity decreased significantly (p < 0.05). PNF had a positive effect on all measurements. Conclusion: PNF exercises increased mouth opening, increased the pressure pain threshold, and decreased pain intensity immediately in individuals with TMD. In TMD, PNF exercises are seen as one of the options that can be used to increase mouth opening and reduce pain.Öğe Investigation of the relationship between temporomandibular disorder and postural analysis(Cetus Publishing, 2021) Ergezen, Gizem; Şahin, Mustafa; Algun, Zeliha CandanINTRODUCTION: Muscular and ligamentous structures connect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) to the cervical region to form a functional unit. Changes in one of the two regions, either TMJ or cervical spine, may affect the other region due to changes in the muscle segment. Our aim is to evaluate and compare whether individuals with temporomandibular disorders differ from healthy individuals in the global postural alignment by objective evaluation method. METHODS: Group 1 (N=30) consist of mixed type temporomandibular disorder (TMD), Group 2 (N=30) consist of healthy temporomandibular joint, totally 60 individuals between the ages of 18-35 were included in this study. Posture Screen Mobile® (PSM) and New York Posture Scale (NYPS) were used for assessment of posture and Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) for diagnosis of TMD and healthy joints. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: It may be beneficial to consider that some postural disorders can be caused by TMD or that TMD can lead to this posture. Being careful about postural alignment in these patients may be important in terms of multidisciplinary approach to TMD patients for proper treatment program and prevention of possible disorders.Öğe Is there any relationship between painful shoulder disorders and balance?(Yuzuncu Yıl University Faculty of Medicine, 2022) Şahin, Mustafa; Ergezen, GizemIn spite of the increasing number of balance assessment studies, the relationship between painful upper extremity and balance disorders is not yet fully understood. The objective of this paper was to determine if balance was affected by painful should er syndromes. A total of 40 adults aged between 20-60, 20 with painful shoulder syndrome (study group) and 20 with healthy shoulders (control group). Stability tests and the risk of fall were evaluated with the help of a Biodex Balance device, the range of motion was evaluated with the help of a universal goniometer, and the intensity of pain was measured with the help of vis ual analog scale (VAS) in both groups. While the overall stability index, one of the subgroups of the stability test, differed between the groups (p< 0.05), no diff erence was observed in the fall risk scores (p?0.05). Stability test scores showed a positive significant correlation with the pain intensity, according to the VAS: pain during night (r2=0.452, p=0.045) and pain while doing any activity (r2=0.764, p=0.000). Individuals with painful shoulders may have a stability disorder. In addition to classical measurement methods in individuals with shoulder pain, emphasis should be placed on balance assessment and shoulder evaluations may be required in adults with atypic al balance disorders.Öğe Respiratory muscle strengths and its association with body composition and functional exercise capacity in non-obese young adults(Termedia Publishing House Ltd., 2023) Ergezen, Gizem; Yılmaz Menek, Merve; Demir, RenginBackground. The assessment of cardiopulmonary problems, exercise capacity, and inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength all depend on body composition, which is a crucial factor in determining human health. Objectives. The present study aimed to examine the effect of body composition and functional exercise capacity on respiratory muscle strength in young healthy adults. Material and methods. In the prospective study, sixty individuals aged between 18-25 years of age who were non-obese were evaluated in terms of body composition by body mass index, respiratory muscle strength by mouth pressure threshold and functional exercise capacities by six minute walking test and sit to stand test. Also, sociodemographic characteristics such as age, gender, education level, height and weight of the participants were recorded. Results. The relationship between body density (BD) parameters and inspiratory muscle strength was found to be moderate (r = 0.394, p < 0.05), while the relationship between expiratory muscle strength was found to be minimal (r = 0.282, p < 0.05). When other measurements and respiratory muscle strength were compared, it was found that the parameters are unrelated to one another (p > 0.05). Conclusions. Present study showed a significant correlation between body density and inspiratory and expiratory respiratory muscle strength. However, no correlation was found between body composition and functional exercise capacity and respiratory muscle strength.
