Objective: The presence of type D personality traits has been reported as an important indicator of adverse clinical outcomes and poor quality of life in many diseases. This study aimed to explore the prevalence of type D personality in patients with Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and the impact of type D personality on clinical parameters, anxiety, depression, sleep quality and quality of life. Methods: 160 MPS patients and 80 healthy controls were included in the study. Pain level and disability were evaluated by visual analog scale (VAS) and neck pain and disability scale (NPDS). The patients were evaluated by SF-36 quality of life scale, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PUKI), Beck Anxiety Scale (BAI) and Beck Depression Scale (BDI), type D personality scale (DS-14). Results: BDI, BAI, and PSQI scores were found to be significantly higher than the MPS patients without type D personality. SF-36 scores were significantly lower in MPS patients with type D personality than those with MPS without type D personality. There was a positive correlation between total DS-14 score and BDI, BAI, PUKI scores and negative correlation between total DS14 score and SF-36 scores. Conclusion: The presence of type D personality in MPS patients adversely affects the quality of life and sleep quality and increases anxiety and depression levels. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the type D personality in MPS patients to determine the risk group for the low quality of life and psychiatric complaints.en_US
