The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of leap motion based exergame therapy on hand function, cognitive function and quality of life in older adults. In this study, 30 older adults aged 50 years and older were included and were randomly divided into two groups as the Structured Exercise (SE) (n=15) and Leap Motion Based Exergame (LMBE) group (n=15). Participants in the SE Group performed a structured hand exercise program and Participants in the LMBE Group performed "ErgoActive" and "HandROM" exercise apps focusing on hand exercises and fine motor skills in the form of a 30 or 45-minute session (16 sessions total), 2 days a week, over 8 weeks. Participants were evaluated with Box and Block Test (BBT), Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT), Hand Dynamometer, Duruöz Hand Index (DHI), Stroop Test (ST), Digit Span Test (DST), and World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-Older Adults Module (WHOQOL-OLD) at the beginning of the study (T0), at 8th (T1), and 16th (T2) weeks after the study started. At the results, there are statistically significant differences in terms of BBT, all parameters of PPT, DHI, and WHOQOL-OLD in SE Group in favor of the T1-T2 period (p<0.05). There are statistically significant differences in terms of BBT, right, left, couple, and total scores of PPT, DHI, and WHOQOL-OLD in LMBE Group in favor of the T1-T2 period (p<0.05). In Time*Group evaluations, there are no differences (p>0.05). In conclusion, Structured Exercise and Leap Motion Based Exergame are effective on hand function and Quality of life in older adults.
