The pandemic has mandated some healthcare workers to provide contact tracing services. The present study aimed to discuss the parenting perceptions and experiences of healthcare professionals assigned to contact tracing teams. We carried out this phenomenological study with 29 mothers and 26 fathers selected using purposive sampling techniques. We collected the data using a demographic information form and a parent interview form and analyzed them using the content analysis method. The results revealed that the parents attempted to balance the risks of their tasks with their parenting roles. Also, their perception of protecting their families was the basis of their efforts to protect themselves. Moreover, the social distance to family members revealed longing and intimacy expectations among the participants. The pandemic has significantly impacted families, which is exponentially dramatic for contact tracing teams as health workers. Therefore, it seems significant to carry out counseling work with such families.

Pharmacist and child communication: A phenomenological multidisciplinary study from the perspectives of undergraduate students in pharmacy and child development

Background: The present study is an interdisciplinary study about pharmacist-child communication exploring the perceptions and observations of students studying in two different but intersecting fields, which are pharmacy and child development. Objective: The objective of the study is to illustrate the perceptions and observations of undergraduate pharmacy and child development students about pharmacist-child communication. Method: The study is a phenomenological study and the phenomenon analyzed is “pharmacist-child communication”. Research study group was selected via criterion sampling method. The sample group consisted of 40 undergraduate pharmacy and child development students. “Demographic Information Form” was used as the data collection tool and “Focus Group Interview Guide” was prepared for focus group interview meetings. Ten open-ended questions aligned with the research objective were asked to the students in the focus group interview. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method and the experiences of these two different groups of students were explored. Results: At the end of the study, two main themes and five sub-themes were obtained. These themes and the sub-themes are as follows: adherence to drug therapy (Sub-themes: communication strategies relevant to the cognitive development at various ages of the child, rewarding children and reinforcement of good behavior, role of the parent in pharmacist-child communication) and physical characteristics of the pharmacy/pharmacist (Sub-themes: physical characteristics of the pharmacy, physical caharacteristics of the pharmacist). Conclusions: Each theme was illustrated in the study with comments of the students. The results showed that the observation and perceptions of the students studying in two different fields agreed with each other and those of other researchers. It is proposed that projects and practices can be developed by these two different disciplines, pharmacy and child development are two intersecting fields. As they complement each other, they could strengthen the pharmacist-child communication and as a result support the child's adherence to therapy.

Bu araştırmada okul öncesi eğitime devam eden 60-72 aylık çocukların öz düzenleme becerileri ile zorbalıkla baş etme stratejilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Karma araştırma modeli ile tasarlanan bu çalışmanın örneklemini, kolay örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen İstanbul İli Beykoz, Üsküdar, Ümraniye ilçelerinde okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarına devam eden 60-72 aylık 85 çocuk ve 16 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada “Demografik Bilgi Formu”, “4-6 Yaş Çocuklarına Yönelik Öz-Düzenleme Ölçeği Öğretmen Formu”, “Zorbalıkla Baş Etme Stratejileri Problem Hikâyeler Formu” kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin çapraz karşılaştırması aritmetik ortalama ve standart sapmalar hesaplanarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öz düzenleme becerisi yüksek çocukların zorbalıkla baş etmede daha çok aktif ve karma stratejileri kullandıkları; öz düzenleme becerisi düşük çocukların ise daha çok kaçınmacı ve duygu odaklı stratejiler kullandıkları bulunmuştur. Çocukların öz düzenleme beceri düzeylerine göre ise duygularını ifade etme biçimlerinin ve zorbalığın nedenlerini açıklama biçimlerinin değiştiği bulunmuştur. Çocukların zorbalıkla etkili baş etme stratejilerini uygulayabilmeleri için öz düzenleme beceri düzeylerinin erken dönemde tespit edilmesi ve desteklenmesi önerilmiştir.; This study aimed to examine the self-regulation skills of 60-72 month-old children attending pre-school education and their coping strategies with bullying. The study sample consists of 85 children of 60-72 months and 16 teachers attending pre-school education institutions located in Beykoz, Üsküdar, and Ümraniye districts of Istanbul Province selected by convenience sampling method. In the study, "Demographic Information Form," "Self-Regulation Scale for Children 4-6 Years Old Teacher Form", and "Coping With Bullying Strategies Problem Stories Form" were used. A mixed research model was used in this study, and cross-comparison of the answers obtained was calculated with arithmetic mean and standard deviations. Participant children with high self-regulation skills mostly used active and mixed strategies in coping with bullying. On the other hand, it was found that children with low self-regulation skills mostly used avoidant and emotion-oriented strategies. Besides, it was found that the self-regulation skill levels of the children were determinant of the ways of expressing their feelings and explaining the reasons for bullying. Therefore, it has been suggested that the self-regulation skill levels of children should be identified and supported at an early stage to provide that they can apply effective coping strategies with bullying.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, bilişsel - davranışçı yaklaşımla bütünleştirilmiş sosyal beceri eğitiminin ergenlerin sosyal kaygı düzeylerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada öntest sontest kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırma grubu Đstanbul’da bir devlet okulunda 6. ve 7. sınıfa devam eden öğrencilerden oluşmaktadır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilere 12 oturumluk “Bilişsel - davranışçı yaklaşımla bütünleştirilmiş sosyal beceri eğitimi” verilmiş, kontrol grubuna ise araştırma kapsamında herhangi bir uygulamada bulunulmamıştır. Katılımcıların sosyal kaygı düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla veri toplama aracı olarak “Çocuklar Đçin Sosyal Anksiyete Ölçeği” ve “Çapa Çocuk ve Ergenler Đçin Sosyal Fobi Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları bilişsel - davranışçı yaklaşımla bütünleştirilmiş sosyal beceri eğitiminin ergenlerin sosyal kaygısını azaltmada etkili olduğunu, ve bu etkinin altı haftalık izleme çalışması sonucunda da devam ettiğini ortaya koymuştur.; Purpose of the study is to examine the effect of social skills traing integrated with cognitivebehavioaral approach on reducing the social anxiety level of adolescents. Quasi experimental design with pre and post test, control group was used in the study. Research group was composed of 6th and 7th grade students from an state school in Đstanbul. Participants in the experimental group attended a 12 session social skills traing program integrated with cognitive-behavioaral approach. Control group did not receive any form of tratment or training. To determine social anxiety levels of the participants “Social Anxiety Scale For Children” and “Çapa Social Phobia Scale For Children And Adolescents” were conducted. Findings show that social-skills training integrated with cognitive-behavioral approach is an effective program to reduce social anxiety level of adolescents and the effect is valid within a six month period the program ended.
