Karaca, B. R. (2021).
After cesarean section, due to uterine contraction and incision site problems such as pain, headache, back pain, inability to actively mobilize, fatigue, gas and bloating, deterioration in sleep quality, and decreased comfort may occur. Reducing postoperative pain is important for relieving chronic pain, depression and increasing postpartum comfort. In reducing postoperative pain, the side effects of the pharmacological methods increased the tendency to non-pharmacological methods. This study was conducted in a randomized controlled manner to determine the effect of hot application on post-cesarean section acute pain and postpartum comfort. The research was carried out in a private hospital in Istanbul between 01 June 2020 - 01 December 2020. The sample group consists of 70 women, 35 of which are in the experimental group and 35 are in the control group, who meet the inclusion criteria. The data of the study were collected with "Descriptive Information Form", "Visual Analog Scale (VAS)" and "Postpartum Comfort Scale (PCS)". SPSS 22.0 program was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the research. Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test and T test were used in the data. The average age of the women in the experimental group participating in the study was 30.91 ± 4.93, and the majority of them were income and expenditure equivalent unemployed women with high school or higher education. It has been found that women generally do not use non-drug pain relief methods, and those who do prefer hot application. It was determined that the descriptive characteristics of the women in the experimental and control groups were similar, there was a decrease in the VAS score of the experimental group after the application, and there was no significant difference between the postpartum comfort scores. As a result, it was determined that the application of heat to the sacral region was effective in reducing acute pain after cesarean section, but the application of heat did not have an effect on increasing postpartum comfort.
